This is well worth watching if you are interested in fostering innovation.  I am always deeply curious when I come across organisations not typically categorised as “creative” doing incredible innovative stuff on an ongoing basis.  The defining factor as ever is leadership.  But not necessarily the type of leadership we are led to believe works.

This TEDxCambridge talk by Linda Hill is music to my ears.  This is the stuff we endlessly explore, aspire to and perspire over!  And yet surprisingly few leaders have the ability think differently; to foster the messy, patient and inclusive platforms necessary for innovation.  And innovation is not an illusive quality we need to go out and acquire, it exists within all of us.

Essentially, Linda uncovers and reveals the mindsets behind “unleashing the power of the many, by loosening the stranglehold of the few”.  Now that, in my view is what leading innovation is all about.

What’s the secret to unlocking the creativity hidden inside your daily work, and giving every great idea a chance? Harvard professor Linda Hill, co-author of “Collective Genius,” has studied some of the world’s most creative companies to come up with a set of tools and tactics to keep great ideas flowing — from everyone in the company, not just the designated “creatives.”
