				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="text-align:justify;"><a href="http://mowbraybydesign.files.wordpress.com/2013/04/war-2.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-1954" alt="WAR" src="http://mowbraybydesign.files.wordpress.com/2013/04/war-2.jpg?w=225&#038;h=300" width="225" height="300" /></a>And when <strong><em>we</em></strong> <strong>are right</strong>, someone or something has to be <strong>wrong</strong>.  This is universal law &#8211; the essence of duality.  Right now we are seeing continuing deep conflict between North and South Korea and it reminds me of how war exists not only in the context of countries playing with nuclear warheads, but in our communities, businesses and society.  What if there were no duality?  What if being right and making wrong were absorbed into a <strong>determination for peace</strong>?  Surely if this intention, this determination were front of mind, <strong>peace</strong> would at least stand a chance, if not prevail?</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">And it&#8217;s far too easy to observe what is occurring on our television screens as events far removed from our reality.  What if we turned our attention to <em>our</em> lives, <em>our</em> businesses, <em>our</em> communities where <em>we</em> can make an impact?  Afterall, not all of us are public figures!</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">So, how about <strong>playing for peace in your boardroom</strong>?  With your clients, suppliers, and co-workers?  I witness mini-wars going on constantly within organisations.  And business has the greatest influence on society today.  Getting conscious of <em>your role</em> in having <strong>peace front of mind</strong> is a great place to start.  And collectively we are powerful, the ripple effect cannot be contained.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">A great place to start is a focus on <a title="Stakeholder Relationship Management" href="http://mowbraybydesign.com/stakeholder-relationship-management/" target="_blank">stakeholder relationships</a>.  Give me a call if you want to explore how <strong>you can start causing ripples</strong> :-)</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="text-align:justify;"><a href="http://mowbraybydesign.files.wordpress.com/2011/03/plbtp.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-1235" alt="Touch Points" src="http://mowbraybydesign.files.wordpress.com/2011/03/plbtp.jpg?w=383&#038;h=286" width="383" height="286" /></a>Touch Points?  Your touch points are everyone and everything you come in contact with.  This starts with your identifiable stakeholders &#8211; if you are in a job this probably includes your boss, the management team, your team,  suppliers, clients, business partners, industry groups and perhaps the media if you are in a visible role.  Now expand this to every interaction you have with anyone on a day-to-day basis and you have your touch points!</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Imagine a moment, five years from now.  A head-hunter is in his/her office and they are managing a search for what would be your ideal job.  Your name has come up as a possible candidate.  The head-hunter happens to know someone who knows you.  They pick up the phone and call this person who then gives them their perception and opinion of you.  A decision is made in that moment whether to pursue you as a candidate or to move on.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Now think about your current role.  Your management team need to promote someone at your level.  Discussions are being held around viable candidates within the business vs external candidates.  What&#8217;s being said about you?</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">The point of this is that most of the key decisions regarding our careers are made when we are not present.  We may have the opportunity initially to argue our case for what we want, however, when it comes to the crux, the final decision will be made when we are not there to sway opinions or to have the impact we desire.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">So nurture your touch points &#8211; they are your mini marketing machines out there influencing your future forever more.  Make sure you leave them with a good impression &#8211; you never know when their opinion might sway things one way or another.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="text-align:justify;">Managing reputation is a little like taking a drug for a condition without exploring the cause.  When it comes to building your personal brand you need firm foundations at a BEing level.  This results in DOing things differently and effortlessly (your actions and behaviours), which others form a perception about, resulting in your reputation.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><a href="http://mowbraybydesign.files.wordpress.com/2013/03/personal-brand-c.jpg"><img class="alignleft  wp-image-1933" alt="Personal Brand c" src="http://mowbraybydesign.files.wordpress.com/2013/03/personal-brand-c.jpg?w=240&#038;h=237" width="240" height="237" /></a>At the heart of any powerful personal brand (and yes, we all have one, whether it&#8217;s working for us or not), is what I like to call a Compelling Idea.  This is your <em>success factor</em>.  And yet most people are not aware of what makes them compelling to others.  We might have an idea or a sense of what this is, however we really need to &#8220;get it&#8221;.  Gain this fundamental insight and you can begin to build your brand on very firm foundations.  It also delivers the second vital component in building your brand &#8211; that of authenticity.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Authenticity should not be underestimated.  It delivers credibility.  We can&#8217;t pretend to be something we are not for an extended period of time &#8211; people are pretty savvy and we intuitively &#8220;get it&#8221; when someone is not real.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">We then need to deliver consistently &#8211; consistency is key.  Consistency delivers trust.  And if we are to trust what is compelling about you as authentic, we need to see it in action all the time.  Not just on a good day!</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Last but certainly not least, we need to make an impact and be well-known for what we do by delivering what is compelling about us (our success factor) online, offline and in person.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Add up all of these fundamentals and you have the result &#8211; your reputation.  And reputation is vital.  Reputation works for us when all of the most important decisions are made &#8211; when we are not there!  <a title="Personal Brand – Nurture your Touch-Points" href="http://mowbraybydesign.com/2013/03/20/personal-brand-nurture-your-touch-points/">What do people say about you when you are not there?</a>  Do you know?</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="text-align:justify;">When it comes to building your <a title="Personal Brand" href="http://mowbraybydesign.com/personal-brand/">personal brand</a>, video is fast becoming the way to go if you want to get your message out.  Last year I filmed and produced <a title="The Wild Card" href="http://mowbraybydesign.com/the-wild-card/" target="_blank">The Wild Card</a>, a video tutorial (originally commissioned by <a href="http://www.dur.ac.uk/business/" target="_blank">Durham Business School</a>) on building Personal and Leadership Brand.  We also launched <a title="Leadership on Camera" href="http://mowbraybydesign.com/leadership-on-camera/" target="_blank">Leadership on Camera</a> to work with getting <em>your</em> leaders messages out.  This year I am working with the talented Michael Haupt of <a href="http://shiftpublishing.com/" target="_blank">Shift Publishing</a> on a series of short videos to deliver value on a number of global platforms &#8211; I shall let you know my findings in a couple of months time&#8230;</p>

<li style="text-align:justify;">Keep it light, talk about your passions and what inspires you;</li>
<li style="text-align:justify;">Add content that adds value to others &#8211; give a little consistently and it will serve you well;</li>
<li style="text-align:justify;">Connect with people who have viewed your profile and always add a personal note;</li>
<li style="text-align:justify;">Ask people you have worked with for recommendations and do the same for them;</li>
<li style="text-align:justify;">Last but certainly not least &#8211; don&#8217;t spam your contacts!</li>
</ul>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="text-align:justify;"><a href="http://mowbraybydesign.files.wordpress.com/2013/02/slide1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-1894" style="margin-left:5px;margin-right:5px;" alt="Slide1" src="http://mowbraybydesign.files.wordpress.com/2013/02/slide1.jpg?w=635&#038;h=476" width="635" height="476" /></a>Sometimes it&#8217;s tough to get to the bottom of what we really want.  And once we have figured it out, it would be a doddle if we only knew <em>how</em> to get there!</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">I was chatting to my brother and he told me how he recently competed in his first triathlon at the grand young age of 41.  Swimming became the unexpected big challenge.  He had trained in the pool and knew he could do the distance.  Saying this, when he was on the open water with hundreds of swimmers around him and limited visibility in the driving rain, he panicked.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">As he explains it, when you are cycling and exhausted, you slow down a little.  And when you are running and out of steam, you walk for a bit.  Swimming on the other hand?  Well, if you stop, you drown.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>It&#8217;s a little like life&#8230;</strong></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Swimming that is.  When we stop, we drown.  When we freeze or seize up or stay firmly stuck in our comfort zones, we flounder.  Our comfort zones can be the most uncomfortable place to be.  Because when we are not moving forward towards the magic we want in business and in life, we are using vast amounts of energy just treading water.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>One small step at a time</strong></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Or one buoy at a time for my brother.  He realised if he just focused on the next buoy in the water, it was all he needed to do to get there.  And he enlisted the help of others along the way.  The lifeguards, fellow competitors&#8230; and made it in good time.  And so an epiphany for him, and a lovely illustration of what we know to be true.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>A magic 2013?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><em>Why not?</em>  What does the place where the magic happens look like, feel like, sound like to you?  And who&#8217;s help can you enlist to help you to take one small step at a time?  Last year I wrote some guidelines on <a title="How to choose a coach or mentor" href="http://eepurl.com/rYR1D" target="_blank">how to choose a Coach or Mentor</a>.  Explore &#8211; find someone who you have great chemistry with and get started.  Afterall, it&#8217;s the first small step of many in finding <em>your magic</em> in 2013.</p>
